Andrew and Bennett Meeting New People
Andrew LaJoie- Honestly, I've been thinking about staying here. The food's great, the adventures and new information have been exciting and fascinating, and the people have made this an incredible trip, and we're not even halfway done. We've been learning about the ants and their environment. We have started the process of the scientific method and are planning our experiments. Outside of work, we have been served all kinds of food that I've never experienced and are starting to love. My bunkmates and I have been having gatherings at our cabin and have been getting really close with the guys and girls that go. We have been able to go to a store and get Costa Rican candies and chips to supply our get togethers.
Bennett Carothers - I have been having an amazing time so far. We have been exploring a lot of the jungle surrounding Finca La Anica and I have seen a lot of very interesting wildlife. Today I found a snake in the barn, and that snake was a bird snake, a non venomous snake that eats bird eggs. We also visited the butterfly garden in the town today too. I also held a frog. The food has been good, I have been trying a lot of new foods and drinks, most of which I have liked, but I have been glad to try all of it. I have had a lot of fun, mostly from being able to explore the jungle with friends. I have gotten close with a bunch of the guys here and that has really elevated the experience. Today was the day we started on the main projects that will be in our presentations when we get back to the States. We have been having plenty of functions at Cabin 1, Andrew's cabin.
Bennett Carothers - My group's project has to deal with the leaves that the Atta Cepholotes like the most and which ones are the best to promote fungal growth. We are going to test this by laying out different leaves that we know the ants like onto a foraging trails. We are then going to take measurements on the different fungal growths. This is to find out which leaves the ants prefer the most and then also which leaves make the fungi grow the most.

I'm glad you are enjoying the food and having a great time Bennett! Remember to wear sunscreen :)
